Tonight at 6.05pm Steve Evans will be chatting to Chris Hawkins of the trio The Clear regarding their new release "Maria Browne" taken from their debut album "Patchwork"
Maria Browne tells the story of a ‘war widow’ whose husband, and father of her little girl, was killed in the Iraq War. The song quotes Obama’s pre-election speech about it being a ‘dumb war’ and alongside the recent publication of the Chilcot Enquiry, Maria Browne seems to be striking a chord with people for its topical lyric. Instrumentally the track’s acoustic and vocal flavours define the band’s now signature sound, reflecting their love of American songwriters from the 60s and 70s. With it’s The Mamas and The Papas style vocal harmonies and sun-drenched guitars, Maria Browne is a 60s style protest song for the present day.
